Issues and Problems

This page is for reporting details of issues with the Evergreen cataloguing functions and recording fixes and workarounds. This replaces the main Evergreen migration document as of July 11.

• Staff Client
  • Entering diacritics can only be done currently by copying and pasting from another application, such as another record in Evergreen. We need to have a way for staff to enter a special character into the staff client.
    • Implement appropriate special character entry application/workflow. [Reported July 11 - Mark]
  • Need to continue to massage the spine label printing code to work with additional callnumber formats. Peter is working on this, but we do need to get a better sense of timelines for the more common number formats that are not currently handeld properly. [Reported July 22 - Dale]
    • May also want to look at a temporary work-around that would generate labels from Word for problematic labels.
    • Should look at a longer-term project to reformat the call numbers to proper MARC standard.
• Cataloguing Standards
  • Need to look at the issue of cataloguing standards and how we decide to "take a record" as it meets our quality standards. [Reported July 22 - Louise]
• Searching
  • Can't currently search the 700's in their own index, so need to do so from staff and public clients. [Reported July 22 - Louise]
    • This is a local configuration issue and Melissa and Grant are working on making the appopriate changes as per instructions from Equinox.
    • Louise to provide Melissa with a list of MARC tags that need to be included in the various indexces and displays.
• Authorities
  • Not able to edit authorities and need to get a better understanding of when this will be available and determine if we should allocate resources to build a separate authority app for adding/editing records. [Reported July 11 - Mark]
  • Need to look at creating a simple NA lookup page or put Access in front of the database, which could easily provide both update and lookup capability. [Reported July 22 - Melissa]
• Z39.50/Copy Cataloguing
  • Without the Z39.50 broadcast capability it can be very cumbersome to grab records as one has to search potential targets individually. We need to come up with some temporary workarounds to improve the workflow here.
    • Investigate a subscription to Worldcat for copy capability. [Reported July 11 - Louise]
    • Is AMICUS working properly in the 1.2.2.3 client? Check for Louise's system in particular. [Reported July 22 - Louise]
